This track, which was featured on her platinum-selling album *New Kind of Feeling*, became a standout hit and significantly outshone a similar release by Dusty Springfield, one of Murray’s favorite singers. Murray, unaware that Springfield had already recorded the song just six months earlier, later admitted that she might have reconsidered recording it if she had known. Despite this, Murray’s rendition achieved remarkable success.
Murray’s version of “I Just Fall in Love Again” made an impressive impact on the charts. It topped Billboard’s Country and Adult Contemporary charts for three consecutive weeks. It also reached number 11 on the Cash Box Top 100 and number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100. This song marked the beginning of a remarkable period for Murray, as it was the first of three consecutive number one hits on the Country charts and four straight number one Adult Contemporary hits during 1979 and 1980.
Although Anne Murray was initially surprised by the song’s success on the Country charts—feeling it did not have a strong “country” sound—it was eventually ranked as the number one Country hit of 1979 by Billboard. In 2007, Murray paid tribute to Dusty Springfield by including the song as a posthumous duet on her album *Duets: Friends & Legends*.
The song’s success extended beyond North America. It topped the Canadian RPM Country Tracks and Adult Contemporary charts, and also made its mark on the UK Singles Chart and other regional charts.
