About the song

“Night Fever” is a classic song by the Bee Gees that became a defining anthem of the late 1970s. Released as part of the *Saturday Night Fever* soundtrack in 1977, it quickly established itself as a significant hit. The track was produced by Robert Stigwood, who initially considered naming the film *Saturday Night*. However, Bee Gees member Robin Gibb felt uncertain about this title. The eventual choice of *Saturday Night Fever* was influenced by the song title “Night Fever,” which the Bee Gees had already composed and thought was more fitting.

Upon its release, “Night Fever” made an impressive ascent on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Starting at number 76, it climbed rapidly, reaching number 32, then 17, and eventually hitting the top spot. It held the number one position for eight consecutive weeks, a record for that year, and remained in the top ten for a remarkable 13 weeks. During this period, “Stayin’ Alive,” another Bee Gees hit from the same soundtrack, was often in the number two position, highlighting the Bee Gees’ dominance on the charts. Remarkably, there was a week in March when Bee Gees-related songs occupied five of the top positions on the Hot 100, with “Night Fever” leading the list.

The inspiration behind “Night Fever” came from a memorable studio moment. Blue Weaver, the band’s keyboardist, was experimenting with a disco version of Percy Faith’s “Theme from A Summer Place” when Barry Gibb walked in and was intrigued by the new sound. This riff became the distinctive string intro of “Night Fever,” marking the beginning of its journey to fame.

The B-side of the single featured a live version of “Down the Road” from the Bee Gees’ 1977 album, *Here at Last… Bee Gees… Live*. The song’s infectious beat and memorable melody contributed to its lasting legacy, making it a cornerstone of the disco era and a staple of the Bee Gees’ impressive catalog.

Lyrics

Listen to the ground
There is movement all around
There is something goin’ down
And I can feel it
On the waves of the air
There is dancin’ out there
It’s somethin’ we can’t share
We can’t steal it
That sweet city woman
She moved through the light
Controlling my mind and my soul
When you reach out for me, yeah
And the feelin’ is right
Then I get night fever, night fever
We know how to do it
Gimme that night fever, night fever
We know how to show it
Here I am
Prayin’ for this moment to last
Livin’ on the music so fine
Borne on the wind
Makin’ it mine
Night fever, night fever
We know how to do it
Gimme that night fever, night fever
We know how to show it
In the heat of our love
Don’t need no help for us to make it
Gimme just enough
To take us to the mornin’
I got fire in my mind
I get higher in my walkin’
And I’m glowin’ in the dark
Give you warnin’
Sweet city woman
She moves through the light
Controlling my mind and my soul
When you reach out for me
And the feelin’ is right
Night fever, night fever
We know how to do it
Gimme that night fever, night fever
We know how to show it
Here I am
Prayin’ for this moment to last
Livin’ on the music so fine
Borne on the wind
Makin’ it mine
Night fever, night fever
We know how to do it
Gimme that night fever, night fever
We know how to show it
Gimme that night fever, night fever
We know how to do it
Gimme that night fever, night fever
We know how to show it
Gimme that night fever, night fever
We know how to do it
