About the song

“I’m Your Boogie Man,” a vibrant creation by Harry Wayne Casey and Richard Finch, encapsulates the infectious disco sound of KC and the Sunshine Band from their fourth album, “Part 3” (1976). This track not only defined an era but also became a global anthem for dance enthusiasts.

The inspiration behind “I’m Your Boogie Man” stemmed from DJ Don Wright of WFUN radio in Miami, Florida, who first aired the band’s breakout hit “Get Down Tonight.” Originally titled “I’ll Be a Son of a Gun,” the song underwent a transformation into the catchy and upbeat “I’m Your Boogie Man,” a title that resonated deeply with the disco scene of the late 1970s.

Upon release, “I’m Your Boogie Man” soared to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1977, cementing its status as a chart-topping sensation. It also reached number 3 on the Billboard Soul chart and was ranked as the 11th best-performing song of 1977 by Billboard. Internationally, the song continued its dominance, topping charts in Canada and making notable appearances in Australia (peaking at number 38), Belgium (number 16), the Netherlands (number 6), New Zealand (number 12), and the United Kingdom (number 41).

Critically acclaimed for its dance-floor appeal, the track was praised by John Rockwell of the New York Times as “an irresistible, captivating, danceable record” that was perfect for any season. Record World lauded its innovative blend of sharp rhythms and bold vocals, setting a new standard for disco hits.

“I’m Your Boogie Man” also found a second wind with a cover by White Zombie, initially recorded for “The Crow: City of Angels” soundtrack in 1996. This rendition, later featured on Rob Zombie’s compilation album “Past, Present & Future,” showcased a darker, industrial twist on the disco classic, earning critical recognition and a Grammy nomination in 1997.

Through its evolution and enduring popularity across different interpretations, “I’m Your Boogie Man” remains a timeless testament to KC and the Sunshine Band’s musical legacy and their ability to ignite dance floors worldwide with their infectious grooves and vibrant melodies.

Lyrics

One, two, three
I’m your boogie man, that’s what I am
I’m here to do whatever I can
Be it early morning, late afternoon
Or at midnight, it’s never too soon
To want to please you, to want to keep you
To want to do it all, all for you
I want to be your, be your rubber ball
I want to be the one, you love most of all, oh yeah
I’m your boogie man, I’m your boogie man
Turn me on
I’m your boogie man, I’m your boogie man
I do what you want
I’m your boogie man, I’m your boogie man
Turn me on
I’m your boogie man, I’m your boogie man
I do what you want
I’m your boogie man, that’s what I am
I’m here to do whatever I can
Be it early morning, late afternoon
Or at midnight, it’s never too soon
To want to take you, to want to hold you
I want to give my all, all to you
And I want you to completely understand
Oh, where I’m at and where I am, oh yeah
I’m your boogie man, I’m your boogie man
Turn me on
I’m your boogie man, I’m your boogie man
I do what you want
I’m your boogie man, I’m your boogie man
Turn me on
I’m your boogie man, I’m your boogie man
I do what you want
I’m your boogie man, that’s what I am
I’m here to do whatever I can
Be it early morning, late afternoon
Or at midnight, it’s never too soon
I want to be with you, I want to be with you
Yeah, we’ll be together, you and me
I want to see you, or get near you
I want to love you up from sun down ’til up
Oh yeah, oh yeah
I’m your boogie man, that’s what I am
I’m here to do whatever I can
Be it early morning, late afternoon
Or at midnight, it’s never too soon
To want to please you, to want to hold you
To want to do it all, all for you
I want to be your, be your rubber ball
I want to be the one, you love most of all
I’m your boogie man, aha
I’m your boogie man, aha
I’m your boogie man, aha
I’m your boogie man, aha
