About  the song

“Who Loves You” is a memorable song by The Four Seasons, released in 1975 as the title track of their album. Written by Bob Gaudio and Judy Parker, and produced by Gaudio, this song marked a significant moment for the group. It achieved notable success, reaching number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in November 1975.

The journey to this hit was marked by a series of changes and challenges for The Four Seasons. After leaving their previous label, Philips, the band signed with Motown. Unfortunately, their Motown releases did not perform well, leading to their departure from the label. In August 1975, “Who Loves You” emerged as the group’s new single, coinciding with Frankie Valli’s “Swearin’ to God” slipping down the charts.

During the initial recording sessions, Frankie Valli was unavailable, so Don Ciccone took on the lead vocals. Impressed by Ciccone’s performance, Warner Bros. suggested making him the new lead singer. This led to a conflict with Valli, who was keen to retain his position. Valli intervened, re-recording parts of the track to ensure his prominent role in the song.

“Who Loves You” features a blend of energetic rhythms and rich vocal harmonies, characteristic of The Four Seasons’ style. The song’s success was underlined by its performance on the charts: it spent 20 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, a record for the band at that time, and also performed well internationally.

The song has seen several versions, including a single edit and a longer disco version. It was also a notable feature in the musical *Jersey Boys*, where it was adapted for the stage.

In addition to its chart success, “Who Loves You” was widely appreciated by critics. Cash Box praised its high energy and appeal to disco fans, while Record World highlighted its continuing relevance to the group’s distinctive sound. The song remains a significant part of The Four Seasons’ legacy, reflecting their ability to adapt and thrive in the ever-changing music landscape of the 1970s.

Lyrics

Who loves you pretty baby,
Who’s gonna help you through the night?
Who loves you pretty mama,
Who’s always there to make it right?
Who loves you pretty baby,
Who’s gonna help you through the night?
Who loves you pretty mama,
Who’s always there to make it right?
Who loves you,
Who loves you pretty baby?
Who’s gonna love you mama?
Who loves you,
Who loves you pretty baby?
When tears are in your eyes,
And you can’t find the way.
It’s hard to make believe,
You’re happy when you’re gray.
Baby when you’re feelin’ like,
You’ll never see the mornin’ light.
Come to me,
Baby, you’ll see.
Who loves you pretty baby,
Who’s gonna help you through the night?
Who loves you pretty mama,
Who’s always there to make it?
Who loves you,
Who loves you pretty baby?
Who’s gonna love you mama?
Who loves you,
Who loves you pretty baby?
And when you think,
The whole wide world has passed you by.
You keep on tryin’,
But you really don’t know why.
Baby when you need a smile,
To help the shadows drift away.
Come to me,
Baby, you’ll see.
Who loves you pretty baby,
Who’s gonna help you through the night?
Who loves you pretty mama,
Who’s always there to make it?
Who loves you,
Who’s gonna love you, love you?
Who’s gonna love you?
Who loves you,
Who’s gonna love you, love you?
Who’s gonna love you?
Baby,
Baby,
Doot-doo-doot.
Come to me,
Baby, you’ll see.
Who loves you pretty baby,
Who’s gonna help you through the night?
Who loves you pretty mama,
Who’s always there to make it?
Who loves you,
Who’s gonna love you, love you?
Who’s gonna love you?
Who loves you,
Who’s gonna love you, love you?
Who’s gonna love you?
